John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions with his pop-folk songs, many of which were located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell new Mexico, but was enthralled by Colorado. The singer-songwriter eventually made his way to Aspen. Denver's most popular songs about his adopted home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated it was because John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver is the Hall of Fame's initial inductee, was honoured with this honor in 2011. Today he personifies the state to people around the world. When I travel, I always encounter someone on the other part of the globe, one of New Zealand and you say 'I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes that comes out of their mouths is"Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint as a folk musician and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff originally wrote it with Johnny Cash's music in mind, but Denver realized from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it could be a huge hit. The song was recorded just a few weeks after that Washington D.C. performance.
